What are self portraits?
Self portraits are a painting, photo, drawing or a sculpture of the artist by the artist. Most artists usually paint themselves in a closeup or an extreme closeup. Vincent Van Goh is famous for painting himself 37 times between 1886 and 1889. Frida Kahlo is also famous for her self portrait.

Why do you think artists make pictures of themselves?(generally, and specifically, use examples from history)
I think that artists make pictures of themselves because the artist knows him/herself the most and maybe some artists wanted to keep a picture of them.

How do I create a digital self-portrait?
You can take a picture of yourself and edit it on a computer if you want or you can just paint with a software.

What images are best for creating a self-portrait?(procedure for your task)
I think that close up pictures are best for creating a self portrait because it would be easier for the people to see the face and it will also be easier to edit it.

Do you think the artist used a mirror? If not how do you think they worked?
I think artists used a mirror because if not then they would not know what their face looks like so they can only do a “personal portrait” which is when the artists focus more on the psychological part rather than the parts of their faces.

What kind of person do you think the artist was. Is there anything in the picture that might help you find an answer?
I think that the person is frowning and he looks disturbed so maybe he was concentrating on something and someone disturbed him. There is something that looks like an aura around the person so maybe it could be brightness because the color that the artist used is bright.

What kind of mood do you think the artist was trying to create? How have they created that mood?
I think that the artists wanted to create a mood that is normal because I can't find anything special about the 2 paintings. From the color of the background I think that Vincent Van Goh is happy or bright and Pierre Auguste Renoir looks dark but maybe3 that was just the color that fits most in his painting and his face looks like it is looking at something close so maybe he just painted what he looks like without any psychological additions.

Have any artists used distortion?
I don't know but maybe there are artists who did it.
